Exploring Quito

Sunday, Feb 19th. 11am

The little we have seen so far is beautiful. Unknown to us though, all the research Connie has done, there is 'the carnival' the next 3 days and much is closed, including travel agencies to help us book what we had planned to do. Although our path may be a bit different, we are rolling with it and enjoying our first day in Quito and will be heading out to go zip-line today.

Patiently waiting....

An early morning drive to Atlanta airport this morning allowed me the pleasure of wandering around the Miami airport the remainder of the afternoon. Ok, ok... By no means has it been a pleasure, but keeping a good mind about it.  After all, it has provided me the time to study, people watch & reflect on how blessed I am to have the opportunity of this 2 week adventure to spend time in both Atlanta, and my upcoming experience of South America with an old, but dear friend.

The plane to Quito, Ecuador will be boarding soon so now I sit & await the arrival of my travel companion, my partner in crime for the next 9 days. I hope she makes it so I don't have to make the decision to get on the plane without her or hope we can grab the next flight!  :-)

And as I typed that, they tell us the plane is delayed. Perhaps Connie is on the late incoming plane that is making this delayed. For our sake, that would be good.

So... to those of you who have inspired me to start this blog and keep you informed during my travels, I will do the best I can with the service I have. I'm guessing it will be sketchy, but will post when I can with photos.

In preparation for Ecuador....

Today, Billy and I hiked a 5 mile trek at Kennesaw Mtn Battlefield.  It was a beautiful day for a hike and the company wasn't bad either!  :)  The first 2 miles was pretty much straight uphill and then we hit another mile or so that was also uphill rocks and tree roots (as you see in the photo). Great workout... until I bit the dust (yes, after we got to the flat land).  Thank goodness we were almost to the parking lot.  Let's just say a trip to Target to get some gauze and ointment was necessary.  All is good though! Now I'm ready for the volcano climbs!

First stop, Atlanta

Although this blog will likely be mostly about Spencer and his accomplishments, I figured I'd start now and document some of my current adventure (Sarah, this is for you, since you clearly want to stalk me while I'm gone!)

I feel blessed that I've been able to take 2 weeks out of the chaos of this thing we call "life"... to get out of the daily humdrum.  It started with a stop off in Atlanta to see Billy. It started with me coming in early to surprise him on his birthday (yes, he's a valentines baby).  I think the speechless part confirmed the surprise worked.  It's been far too long since we've seen each other and it's been a great time.  In true fashion for the two of us, it hasn't worked out at all as planned, but also, in true fashion... we are rolling with the punches and still enjoying it and each other. We figure someday, something is bound to work out in our favor, until then we chose to find the humor in it.

So... I have 2 more days here to take in what I can...

Next Stop... Ecuador!

A first time for everything...

So, I've been wanting to blog for awhile.  Not because I have a lot of a free time and certainly not because I'm good with words. Just the opposite in fact.  I want to blog because for the first 4 years of Spencer's life, I scrapbooked and he loves to look at them. Now, I have less time so I figure this may be the best way to take little pieces of time when I can since weekends away scrapbooking seem, well, impossible to fit in! And... now that Spencer is growing into a little man, I think it's even more important for me to capture our lives for him to look back upon.  He will appreciate it.  He already does.

Spencer, this blog is dedicated to you, my love!
