8/1/15: Oasis in Northern Iceland

Day 3 - Saturday, August 1

We woke from our last night of staying at B&B GeirshlĂd to grab a quick breakfast head to our next destination.  But before we left, we just couldn't resist having a little fun in the backyard...

Our hope was to take a photo with each host we stay with.  Unfortunately Hulda had a funeral so we missed her.  She was great though and the accommodations were very nice.  Especially the shower!

Next stop: Northern Iceland

We found a really cute place on air B&B that had a great view and a hot tub so decided to head north.  We drove just north of Fell, which is on the Greenland Sea. The drive, as you may have guessed, was AMAZING!

After Connie blew through her data plan within an hour or two of being in Iceland by using GPS,  Our navigation system changed. It turned into grabbing a map from our B&B along with pulling up a Google map up before leaving and trying to find our way.... It worked, most times.

So... About the drive.  Icelands roadways are a little different then ours.  They have Route 1 (aka: the Ring Road), passes all the way around Iceland.  But, if you put addresses in Gps, it will give you the shortest distance to things.  Our drive north brought us to the most incredible road...  This is an "F" road.  You can only go on them if you have 4x4.  This was a CRAZY road, but so much fun.  I even video taped part of it.

We did get out a couple times to take in the view and a quick "duie".

And to meet the wild life!

Our first Whale sighting!!  Or so we thought...  We had just stopped on top of the hill (to take the picture above), when Connie got giddy excited about seeing a whale!  It really ended up being some waves. Haha.  It was too funny to not include in the blog!

When we stopped to take a photo of the bridge above... We found a very nice fisherman.  We had matching hats so it was only appropriate that we take photos together....

We made it!!

Once we arrived... We ran into town to grab some food to make dinner.  It was our first experience in a tunnel.  A one lane tunnel...
It was a little nerve wracking... That is, until we realized there are pull offs if you happen to run into another car.

Back to the house we made dinner and sat on the deck to enjoy it.

Not a bad view!

After dinner, we decided to go for a walk in the area because it was "Majestical"
One of our house mates came with us, Diego.  I was instantly impressed because he walked out of the house with a nice Canon camera!  After about 30 seconds of talking with him, I knew he was a creative soul.  Little did we know at this point, it would be the start of a beautiful friendship!

Our walk was Beautiful!!

The house from the natural hot springs....

After our hike we decided to hit the hot tub... With a little wine of course!  Our new friend Diego joined us.
We had a toast to old friends, new friends

Quote of the Day:  Have you ever seen a sheep with a saddle?

Explanation for quote of the day:  The Greenland Sea wasn't easily accessible as the shortest route was over a cliff. As we were talking about how we get there to skinny dip...
Diego: we could ride a sheep.
Gullible me: (With excitement and belief) "CAN WE??"
Diego: (insert quote of the day).
